FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For your convenience I have put together and answered a list of frequently asked questions.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SHOOTING AND EDITING STYLE?
HOW DO I BOOK?
As your photographer, my goal is to capture beautiful, authentic and candid imagery. I use a more "lifestyle approach" when taking photos. Lifestyle photography is a genre of photography that mainly aims to capture portraits of people in situations, real-life events, or milestones in an artistic manner. I love to capture images as if I am telling a story - your story - I do my best to capture all of the little moments with a very candid style. I strive to make the photo taking process a fun and enjoyable experience that is authentic to you.
I often shoot my sessions using lots of movement and prompts to help guide my clients through their session. I do this because I love the natural and true to life feel that it gives in photographs. I also find that it makes my clients feel more comfortable during the photo taking process. Although we will have lots of candid photos, don't worry, we will still try get a few photos of everyone smiling and looking at the camera. During your photo session please expect it to be full of fun, love, movement and laughs.
As for editing, I try to keep my editing style consistent and cohesive, although each session will have their differences since no two situations are exactly the same. I would describe my style as the following: Earthy and Cinematic. I like to keep my colours fairly natural, with a bit of mood and softness. I highly suggest that you check out my portfolio gallery on my website or on any of my social media apps before booking to ensure you like my editing and photo taking style before booking a session.
When editing my photo sessions I do not do a ton of editing work in photoshop (so please don't expect me to edit you to look like a different person) you are SO beautiful just as you are. However, working on my galleries I will spend the extra time to edit out the distracting things in the background of images or do minimal cosmetic touch ups (ex. fixing minor blemishes, bruises or stains) to ensure that your photographs are as beautiful (and natural) as they can be!

Seasonally, I do put out mini sessions that are booked through an online booking link. These sessions are booked back to back have a slightly different booking process. Mini sessions are announced online through my instagram and facebook pages when they become available. For these type of sessions, I do have a mailing list of which can be joined to gain early access to booking & information on sessions. You can message me on my socials or through my website if you are interested in joining this list.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY SESSION?
Due to my busy schedule as a mama, and with me only working part time in photography if you would like to guarantee a spot with me I will always suggest booking as early as possible. Booking early ensures we can fit you in around my schedule and that you wont miss out on the opportunity of working together!
For weddings and events, I would suggest reaching out as soon as you have decided on your date as I only take on a select amount of these types of sessions. I limit the number events and weddings that I take on to ensure that I do not overload my schedule and that I am able to give all of my galleries the attention to detail they deserve.
WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST FOR PHOTOS?
Lighting is one of the most important elements of photography. Lighting impacts everything in photography including the colours, textures, mood and the story of the image. Having the best lighting when taking a photo can take good photograph and turn it into an amazing photograph!
For outdoor sessions, I usually try my best to shoot during golden hour. Golden hour is the first hour after the sun rises or the last hour before the sun sets. I like to do this because during this time the lighting is very consistent, you get that warm "golden glow" and you do not get any unflattering shadows.
However, I do know that sometimes it is just not possible to get photos done during golden hour! We can still get amazing photographs at other points during the day but we will just have to work with lighting a bit more or find a more shaded location.
For indoor sessions, I suggest that clients take note of when they have the brightest natural lighting within their space. (Specifically in the spots that you would like photos taken in.) I often find that most homes get the best natural lighting late morning but this definitely is different from space to space.
If natural lighting is an issue, I do have some studio lights and flash that I can bring to a photo session that can be used to help in difficult lighting situations indoors. Please ensure this is discussed prior to session if you have a space that you that you believe that these may be needed so that I can make sure to have them available for our photo session.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO MY SESSION?
Try to choose classic cut jeans/pants, simple dresses, plain shirts (no logos), with unbranded or neutral shoes. Basically, simple, classic clothes usually work best as they are timeless. Timelessness is key in making sure that you photos stand the test of time and to ensure that you will not feel embarrassed showcasing your images on the wall in a few years time.
In terms of colour or patterns you are welcome to work with colour or patterns but just make sure that you and others that are being photographed are complementary in colour (not fully matching) and that patterns are not overpowering. I often suggest using neutrals and earth tones as I feel they photograph beautifully and look very cohesive with most photo locations.
If you would like any further information on creating a wardrobe for your session (sample colour pallets or outfit examples) please click on the "Wardrobe" TAB at the bottom of this page.
When you book a session with me you have access to my client closet and may choose a piece to wear from my closet should you desire! If you are interested in checking out my closet please click the "Client Closet" TAB at the bottom of this page.
WHAT IF WE NEED TO CANCEL OR RESCHEDULE OUR SESSION?
As a mom of two boys, I totally get that sometimes things can happen and sometimes we need to reschedule or cancel a shoot due to unforeseen circumstances.
In the event of needing to reschedule a session, I am more than willing to work together and find a new date for your session around my schedule. Please keep in mind that in order to set a new date, (much like when booking your initial photo session) a new retainer and contract will need to be made to secure the new photo session date.
In the event of needing to cancel your booked photo session, the initial retainer made at the time of booking is non refundable (as stated in your contract at booking). This non-refundable retainer is made to purchase my future time and availability. It ensures that the chosen date is saved just for you and ensures that I am compensated for all of the work I do behind the scenes for your session (emails, contract creating, location scouting, session guide creating etc.) even if you decide not to proceed with the booking.
WHAT IF THE WEATHER DOES NOT COOPERATE THE DAY OF OUR SESSION?
Living on Vancouver Island, on the wet (I mean west) coast, we are probably all very aware that the weather can change in the blink of an eye! It can be sunny one moment and then rainy and dark the next. I am always up for getting outside and embracing whatever the weather throws at us! Being an avid hiker and adventurer I have spent my fair share of time outside in non-ideal conditions so have the gear for it.
If we do not have perfect sunny weather on the day of our session, don't worry! We can get some absolutely amazing photos no matter what the weather throws at us - rain, clouds, snow etc. I honestly have done some of my most fun and amazing work in some crazy weather!
If embracing the weather is just not for you, indoor photo sessions are always an option during the months of more unpredictable weather. We shouldn't have to embrace any elements within the comfort of your home, haha!
However, if indoor sessions are not an option and if the weather is extreme, we can definitely plan for another day around my schedule. Please keep in mind that if rescheduling is the case, there may be a bit of a wait as my schedule is usually pretty booked due to only doing photography part time!

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY PHOTOS?
I am always very eager to get started on editing up the photos that I have taken at our session and do my best to get photos back to you in a timely manner. I know how exciting it is to see your photos after a photo session so try my best to not keep you waiting too long!
I try to send out a sneak peek within a few days of the session and then it usually takes 3-5 weeks for me to edit and complete the rest!
When it comes to weddings and events, the full gallery turn around time takes a little bit longer than an average session. There are so many beautiful details and photographs that are captured on your big day and I want to ensure they get the attention they deserve to ensure a beautiful and cohesive gallery. The average wedding it takes about 8-10 weeks from the wedding day for photos to be completed.
WILL YOU SEND OUT RAW OR UNEDITED IMAGES?
No! I will not send out my RAW or unedited files. My editing style is a big part of my photography brand and I have spent a lot of time making my work the way it is today. RAW files do not show an accurate representation of my portfolio so I will never send these out for clients to download.
