Long time no post! It has been a hot minute since I have written on my blog. In case you don't already know, things have been busy. I got through the school year and am back at it doing photography full time once again and have the time to make a post on the blog.
This session was a fun one. It happened during the spring during the camas wildflower season. These flowers are so stunning but have a very short blooming season. Kayla (a fellow local photographer - and friend) and her beautiful little family embraced the pollen filled wildflower l feilds and we captured some magic.
It is always so fun getting to capture families (especially those who are close to the heart, as this little family is! Family sessions with little are almost always super chaotic and very fast paced (especially with little boys who just want to run around and be as crazy as possible, haha) As a fellow boy mom, I totally understand and embrace the crazy and do my best to make your session as fun for both you and the kiddos as possible. During this session we played a number of games of which really lead our session!
Here are a few of my favourite tips when it comes to family photography:
1) Prep your family ahead of time (both the kids and your partner). Let them know who your photographer is and what they are doing to do!
2) Make sure everyone is well fed before your session (we don't want any hangry family members documented, hehe.)
3) Bring sentimental items or comfort toys. They can really break the ice and allows me to capture your little authentically. It shows the stage that they are at and allows them to feel more comfortable during the photo taking process.
4) Plan outfits ahead of time. Throwing together outfits last minute works, but I do find that wardrobe can really elevate a photo session and create a more cohesive look.
5) Lastly, have fun!
Lean in to the chaos. Make your session full of fun, games and memories. There is no use striving for the perfect smiling at the camera photo with young kids and toddlers.. so just roll with the punches! Honestly, I find that the photos will turn out even more perfect when they are candid as beautiful little moments and core memories are documented during the process.
